T20 World Cup 2022: India’s four standby players set to travel to Australia with main squad – Report

Shami, Chahar, Iyer and Bishnoi are the four standby players for T20 World Cup 2022.

Mohammad Shami, Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar | GettyLast week, the All India Senior Selection Committee announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, slated to be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

The selectors also named four players in the standby list, including the pace duo of Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar, middle order batter Shreyas Iyer, and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the four standbys will travel to Australia with the main squad and be available to be drafted into the squad at any given time.

Before heading to Australia for the T20 World Cup, India will play six T20Is at home against Australia and South Africa.

Notably, pacers Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been asked to report to the NCA for conditioning-related work during the home series.

In case, any of the fast bowlers named in the 15-member squad face a fitness-related problem then the likes of Shami and Chahar will be readily available to the team management.

The Indian contingent is slated to depart for Australia on October 6, while the Men in Blue will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23.
