T20 World Cup 2022: Zimbabwe announces 15-member squad; Craig Ervine returns as captain

Zimbabwe placed in Group B with Ireland, Scotland and West Indies in qualifying round.

Zimbabwe | GettyZimbabwe, on Thursday (15th September 2022) announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Craig Ervine, recovered from his hamstring niggle and returned to the squad, and was named captain of the side as well.

The T20 World Cup 2022 will be played from October 16 onwards when the qualifying round will be played for two spots in the super 12s stage up for grabs. Zimbabwe has been placed in Group B of the qualifying round with Ireland, Scotland, and the two-time champions West Indies.

Zimbabwe is also scheduled to face Sri Lanka and Namibia in warm-up matches on 10 and 13 October ahead of the main tournament. Zimbabwe's T20 World Cup campaign starts with Round 1 against Ireland at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Tasmania.

Apart from Ervine, senior members like Tendai Chatara, Wellington Masakadza, and Milton Shumba have also been included in the squad after they recovered from their respective injuries.  Blessing Muzarabani, who has been a regular in various T20 leagues, is also back to fitness and will return to spearhead Zimbabwe's bowling attack.

Zimbabwe has also named Tadiwanashe Marumani, Innocent Kaia, Kevin Kasuza, Victor Nyauchi, and Tanaka Chivanga as the reserve players.
