Former Indian chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar expressed his discontent over the omission of Mohammad Shami, Umran Malik, and Shubman Gill from India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

He further stressed that Malik, Shami, and Gill should have given a longer run in T20I cricket after their impressive performance in the IPL 2022, and they should be included in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, which is scheduled to play from October 16 in Australia.

Shami and Gill were part of the title-winning Gujarat Titans side in the IPL 2022, where the Indian pacer picked up 20 wickets with the best figures of 3/25, while the young batter scored 483 runs from 16 matches.

On the other hand, Umran scalped 22 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2022 and bowled over 150kph regularly and had the second fastest delivery in IPL 2022.

As reported by The Indian Express, Dilip Vengsarkar said: “I would have picked Mohammed Shami, Umran Malik, and Shubman Gill for the T20 World Cup. Would have given them a long run in T20Is because they all had a brilliant IPL season.”

Meanwhile, former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad was also disappointed with the fact that Team India will miss Shami’s express pace on the Australian pitches in the upcoming showpiece event.

Prasad said: “I think the express pace of Shami is missing. If you see Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, they are not express. The only bowler who has got that extra pace is Jasprit Bumrah.”

The former cricketer also believes that Ravindra Jadeja will be a big miss for India in the T20 World Cup 2022, given the all-rounder’s ability to turn games around with the bat, ball, and in the field.

He signed off by saying, “It is a massive blow for India. He is an integral part of this Indian team. Especially his batting in the finisher’s role has become crucial for India. He can bat anywhere in the middle order, wherever the team requires him. His injury is a big jolt to the team management.”
