The defending champions and hosts of the T20 World Cup 2022, Australia have unveiled their new look jersey for the upcoming ICC mega event on September 14, 2022. The jersey has indigenous themes to it and it will be worn for the first time by the Kangaroos.
Australia's new jersey will have shirts with black sleeves and a gold and green gradient on its trunk topped by artwork. Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen designed the kit. Clarke is related to James Couzens, a cricketer who was part of the Aboriginal XI that played a landmark match at the MCG in 1866 and also toured England two years later.
"The overall design is to do with the process of connecting with yourself as an individual, as a team, in the community and whatever is surrounded by you with the river, the land, whatever you see," Clarke said.
Hagen added that the jersey is themed with the idea to incorporate the colors of both the First Nation flags in Australia.
“In the middle, we’ve been able to incorporate the colors of both of First Nations flags in Australia. So you’ve got the red, black and yellow, which represents the Aboriginal flag, and the blue, white, and green which represents the Torres Strait Islander flag," Hagen said.
Regarding the T20 World Cup 2022, Australia is placed in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage with New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, and two qualifiers.
Cricket Australia had recently announced the Australia squad for the tournament and it saw only one change from the one that won the trophy in UAE in 2021. Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson was replaced with big-hitter Tim David.
