ECB names England squads for Pakistan T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2022; Jason Roy misses out

Jason Roy missed out on both Pakistan tour and the T20 WC | GettyThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the England squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and also for the upcoming Pakistan tour where they will play seven T20Is before the ICC event.

The squad for the Pakistan T20I series sees England including four uncapped players in order to give rest to some of their first-choice cricketers. The T20I series will be played from September 20- October 2nd in Karachi and Lahore.

Also though, Jos Buttler has been included in the Pakistan T20Is squad, he is expected to participate in the later part of the series only, as he recovers from his calf injury.

In his stead, Moeen Ali will captain the England side, which will also miss the likes of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow (not included) and Chris Jordan and Liam Livingstone (both injured).

ECB stated in their official release: “Chris Jordan (finger) and Liam Livingstone (ankle), will continue their rehab and will not tour Pakistan ahead of the World Cup but remain on track to be fit for the tournament in Australia. England captain Jos Buttler, recovering from a calf injury, will tour Pakistan, but he is expected to be available to play during the latter stages of the seven-match series. In Buttler's absence, Moeen Ali will captain the side.”

Jason Roy misses out on both squads due to poor form, while Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have been included after recovering from their respective injuries.

Also missing out from both the squads is ace fast bowler Jofra Archer, who continues his journey to full fitness.

Tymal Mills, Richard Gleeson, and Liam Dawson have been named as the three reserve players.
