While the 2022 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is still four months away, cricket fans and experts have already started picking their first-choice playing XI for different teams.
Recently, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared his thoughts on Team India, saying that Suryakumar Yadav has already confirmed his place in the side for the marquee event.
The middle-order batter is not part of the Indian side in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. He had sustained a left forearm muscle injury during the IPL 2022 and is currently working on his fitness.
The 31-year-old will return to action in the two-match T20I series against Ireland later this month as the selectors have named him in the 17-member squad.
"I think he has already confirmed his ticket to Australia. We have seen a lull in a lot of players' performances. Rishabh Pant, for example, but I doubt whether they will drop him for that big-ticket event to Australia," Manjrekar said during an interaction on Sports 18.
He believes Surya is definitely going to make it to India's squad unless he gets injured.
"So Suryakumar Yadav has already proved his worth beyond any doubt. So, injury notwithstanding, I see him having that one seat confirmed on that flight to Australia."
As of today, Suryakumar Yadav has played 14 T20Is, scoring 351 runs at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 165.56 with four half-centuries.
