T20 World Cup 2021: Shoaib Akhtar calls Australian players’ shoey celebration ‘disgusting’

Wade and Stoinis celebrated T20 WC win by drinking beer out of a shoe.

Wade and Stoinis celebrated T20 WC win by drinking beer out of a shoe | InstagramThe Australian team won their maiden T20 ICC event when they defeated New Zealand in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai in UAE on November 14. With this ICC T20 title win, the Kangaroos’ white-ball trophy cabinet is now full with five 50-over World Cups and 2 Champions Trophies.

The Aussies celebrated in their own ways in the dressing room after the presentation ceremony was over and drank to enjoy the brilliant title win. However, some of the players began to drink beer not from their cans, but shoes.

Semi-final hero Matthew Wade was followed by Marcus Stoinis in this ‘ritual’ or shoey celebration, as they were surrounded by a vociferous bunch of players who egged them on.

Though it is a common way for Australian sportspersons to celebrate victories by drinking out of their shoes, former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar found the celebrations ‘disgusting’ as he shared the video on his Twitter account with the caption, saying: “A little disgusting way of celebrating no??
