T20 World Cup 2021: Pakistan cricket fraternity hails Babar Azam and company despite semi-final loss to Australia

Pakistan cricket team | GettyPakistan’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign came to an end on Thursday (November 11) as they suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Australia in the second semi-final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Having won all their five games in the Super 12 stage, Pakistan were expected to get the better of Australia in the semi-final but they lost the high-scoring thriller by five wickets.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan posted 176/4 in 20 overs on the back of half-centuries from Mohammad Rizwan (67 off 52 balls) and Fakhar Zaman (55* off 32 balls).

In reply, the Aussies overhauled the target with an over to spare. Opener David Warner set the tone with a blazing knock of 30-ball 49 and the duo of Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis took Australia over the line.

Australia needed 62 off the last five overs and it was then Wade and Stoinis stepped up to the plate. While Stonis remained unbeaten on 31-ball 40, Wade smashed 41 not out off 17 balls to seal the deal.

Despite the defeat, Pakistan cricket fraternity took to Twitter and lauded Babar Azam and company for their stunning display during the showpiece tournament.
