South Africa captain Temba Bavuma believes that his team’s 10-run win against England will give his young players a lot of experience, confidence, and knowledge on how to go about things forward, as their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 campaign ended on Saturday, November 6.
South Africa stunned England in their final Group 2 game by 10 runs to finish their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign on a high on Saturday in Sharjah, UAE.
However, South Africa failed to qualify for the semi-finals due to net run rate but Bavuma said the Proteas achieved what they wanted to in the tournament while calling it a "bitter-sweet end" for the side.
Notably, England (+2.464) and Australia (+1.216) on Saturday qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2021 from Group 1, having a better net run rate than South Africa (+0.739).
Bavuma said at the post-match presentation, “The win was important. The bitter-sweet end for us. We achieved what we wanted to - win the game but just couldn't win it big enough.”
On the net run rate factor for the qualification, the skipper noted: “At the start of the tournament, that (net run rate) was never a factor for us, we just wanted to win games. It's always tough to make up for that at the back end, especially against a team like England.”
He signed off by saying, “The young guys will learn a lot from this. I think this is going to give us a lot of experience and confidence. It'll give us a lot of knowledge on how to go about things forward.”
