New Zealand registered their third victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they thrashed Namibia by 52 runs at Sharjah on Friday (November 5).

Asked to bat first, New Zealand posted a massive 163/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The Kiwis reached the strong total thanks to a late blitz from Glenn Phillips (39* off 21 balls) and Jimmy Neesham (35* off 23 balls).

For Namibia, captain Gerhard Erasmus (1-22) and Bernard Scholtz (1-15) returned with impressive bowling figures.

Defending the total, the Black Caps restricted Scotland to 111/7. Veteran pacers Tim Southee (2-15) and Trent Boult (2-20) bowled economically and picked up two wickets each.

Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner (1-20) also bowled a miserly spell with a scalp to his name while leg-spinner Ish Sodhi finished with the figures of 1 for 22 in his three overs. All-rounder Neesham too chipped in with a scalp in his one over.

It was a disappointing batting performance from Namibia as opener Michael van Lingen was the top scorer with 25.

With this thumping victory, New Zealand strengthened their chance to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final and they will take on Afghanistan in their last Super 12 match on November 7.
