Following Australia’s win against Bangladesh in an ICC T20 World Cup 2021 clash in Dubai, spinner Adam Zampa said that his team had to be aggressive from the start.

Australia thrashed Bangladesh by 8 wickets in their fourth match of T20 World Cup 2021 to put one step forward towards grabbing a spot in the semi-finals.

Bowling first, Australian bowlers were all over the Bangladeshi batters and on account of Adam Zampa’s five-wicket haul, bundled out the Mahmudullah-led side for just 73 runs.

With just 74 runs to chase, Australia came out all guns blazing and chased the target in just 6.2 overs to boost their Net Run Rate and gain important two points.

Adam Zampa, who was awarded player of the match, revealed that his side wanted to come out aggressive against Bangladesh as their last 1-4 series loss against them was in their mind.

"Obviously we wanted to come out really aggressive, we did have some, interesting memories of the last time we played Bangladesh and that was in our minds a little bit. We have a little bit of a different team, we have some really fast bowlers and we wanted to be aggressive early,” Adam Zampa said in an ICC release.

Zampa admitted that Bangladesh is a talented team and even if they would give them a little chance, they’ll take it and that is why they tried to be aggressive.

"We know that if we give a team like Bangladesh a little sniff or a little chance, they'll take it. They are a really talented team, they have some really talented players, but they have a pretty big absence in Shakib [Al Hasan] so we tried to be aggressive and go from there," he said.

Adam Zampa said that even though he took five wickets but it wasn’t the best he bowled. He remarked that he felt good to contribute to the team when it was important for them to win.

He added that the win against Bangladesh was extremely important for them as it took them one step closer to the semi-finals.

“You look at cricket as a results-based game you see the five wickets, but it wasn't the best I've bowled. But you look at it in terms of the situation of our World Cup and how important the win was, it feels really good to be able to contribute.

“Obviously to bowl them out for 70-odd runs and get the runs so quick it gets us up to second on the ladder so satisfying and a really important one for us," he said.

Australia will next face West Indies in their T20 World Cup clash at Abu Dhabi and a win is likely to seal them a place in the semi-finals as after the 8-wicket win against Bangladesh, their NRR went ahead of South Africa, who also have 6 points.
