Pakistan cricket team qualified for the T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final after beating Namibia by 45 runs in the Super 12. They have registered four consecutive wins in the tournament; beating India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan earlier.
But despite a terrific outing in the last few matches, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar warned the Babar Azam-led side to not let history repeat itself and learn lessons from the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
Akhtar is confident of Pakistan's chances of winning the ongoing tournament and wants them not to let go of this opportunity. "This World Cup shouldn't slip through our fingers. We don't want a bad day, like in 1999. The way Pakistan are playing currently, and are cruising through games, it reminds me of our 1999 ODI World Cup.
"So we don't want any unlucky day which embarrasses us. So, let's win it," he said in his YouTube video.
The 46-year-old further said that the World Cup has happened only for Pakistan's win and they should go unbeaten in the final.
"I really think that the team is heading towards the right way. Pakistan should go unbeaten into the finals. And I think Pakistan has a greater chance to lift this World Cup. This World Cup has only happened because Pakistan should win," he said.
Pakistan were in terrific form during the 1999 World Cup. They had topped their group and then the Super Six points table to qualify for the final. But Australia had defeated them in the final by 8 wickets.
