England pacer Tymal Mills has been ruled out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 due to a right thigh strain he suffered in the Supers 12s Group 1 match against Sri Lanka on Monday in Sharjah.

Mills, England's joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, left the field after nine balls of his spell, immediately calling for a substitute fielder, Sam Billings, to replace him and heading straight to the dressing room. Results of the scan on Tuesday night revealed the extent of the injury, ruling him out of the remainder of the tournament.

England has virtually qualified for the semifinals after four wins in four matches in the tournament thus far and has just one more league match to go, against South Africa on Saturday.

Reece Topley has been added to the England World Cup squad following his role as traveling reserve.

Mills had been called up to the England team for the first time since 2017 after a long battle with injuries - including a stress fracture last winter which forced him to wear a back brace for three months.

He then picked up 2 for 17 against the West Indies and 3 for 27 against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup.
