T20 World Cup 2021: Cricket fraternity reacts as Azam-Rizwan combo puts Pakistan into semifinals

Pakistan has now won four out of four matches in group stages thus far.

Pakistan became the 1st team in semi-finals of the T20 WC 2021 | GettyPakistan consolidated its position at the top of Group 2 of the Super 12s round after winning their fourth match on a trot in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE. After defeating India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, the Men in Green accounted for Namibia in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and chose to bat first in order to test his batters by going against the grain. Mohammad Rizwan started off slowly but Azam continued his silken run with the bat in the tournament as he slammed 70 in 49 balls with 7 fours and added 113 runs for the first wicket.

Rizwan continued the assault, finishing on 79* in 50 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes, while Mohammad Hafeez slammed 32* in 16 balls with 5 fours as Pakistan finished on 189/2 in 20 overs. This was the fifth century partnership by Azam and Rizwan for the first wicket and most by any pair in T20I cricket so far.

In reply, Pakistan bowlers kept constant pressure on Namibia batters as Craig Williams made 40, and Stephan Baard made 29 runs. David Wiese hit some long ones in the end and remained unbeaten on 43 with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan all picked one wicket each as Namibia finished on 144/5 and Pakistan won by 45 runs. With this win, Pakistan also qualified for the semi-finals as well, becoming the first team in this tournament to do so.

Mohammad Rizwan was named the Player of the Match.

The cricket fraternity lauded a clinical Pakistan team performance and praised them for making it into the semifinals.
