Birthday boy Ish Sodhi was the flavor of the day as New Zealand beat India by 8 wickets in their second match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai on October 31st. With this win, New Zealand kept themselves in the run for the semifinal qualification.
Ish Sodhi bowled a tidy spell of 4-0-17-2, scalping the wickets of big fishes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Courtesy of his spell and impressive bowling from other bowlers, NZ restricted India to a mere total of 110/7 in 20 overs.
Following the huge win, the leggie was sent to address the post-match press conference. Apart from impressing with his bowling, Sodhi also impressed fans with his response when a journalist asked a question to him and requested a response in Hindi.
‘Extremely grateful and honored,’ says Ishant Sharma after receiving Arjuna Award
In case you don’t know, Inderbir ‘Ish’ Sodhi was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, India on Oct 31, 1992, and his family moved to Auckland, New Zealand when he was 4 years old.
“My Hindi is gonna be tested here, sir. I think if my mum is watching this and if I say something slightly wrong, she would give me a hard time about it. So, I will answer in English this time around but hopefully, I can develop my Hindi better," he said.
With a defeat against NZ, India is now staring at a first-round exit from the ICC event, and even wins in the rest of the 3 matches won't guarantee them a spot in the next round. After 2 defeats in as many matches, India is placed at the 5th spot in the points table.
