Former England cricketer Nick Compton has claimed that India skipper Virat Kohli's poor relationship with R Ashwin made him not pick the off-spinner into the playing XI for the first two games of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
His statement came after India's crushing 8-wicket defeat against New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday (October 31).
India picked spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the first two matches of the tournament, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also offering the spin bowling option.
Taking to Twitter, Compton wrote: "I just don’t understand how Kohli’s prickly relationship with Ashwin is allowed to keep him out of Indian teams? Do you think Captains should be allowed such autonomy?"
The Englishman continued taking shots at Kohli and he posted another tweet taking a jibe at his captaincy. "For Kohli’s last game in charge I predict a resounding victory against Namibia on the 8th November… #ICCT20WorldCup," he tweeted.
Kohli has already announced that the ongoing T20 World Cup is his last tournament as India's T20I captain. Even Team India's support staff, including head coach Ravi Shastri won't continue after the mega ICC event.
