Team India’s poor show in the ongoing T20 World Cup continued as they suffered a humiliating eight-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 31).
Having been annihilated by Pakistan last week, it was a must-win game for the Men in Blue but they failed to rise to the occasion once again.
This result means that India will need other games to go their way if they are to reach the semi-finals.
After the game, former England skipper Michael Vaughan posted a series of tweets, in which he slammed India’s approach in the shortest format and suggested the BCCI to allow their players to take part in other leagues.
“India could be on the way out of this #T20WorldCup .. the mindset & approach with all that talent so far has been so wrong #India,” Vaughan wrote.
“India are playing 2010 Cricket .. The game has moved on .. #T20WorldCup,” he said in another tweet.
“Let’s be honest … For all the talent & depth in #India cricket they under achieved massively for years in white ball Cricket … #Fact #T20WorldCup,” he further tweeted.
“India should take a leaf out of all other countries … Allow their players to play in other leagues around the World to gain experience … #India #T20WorldCup,” Vaughan opined.
Coming to the match, India posted a below-par 110/7 in their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first by New Zealand. All the batters looked tentative and Ravindra Jadeja was the top scorer with 26 not out.
In reply, the Kiwis rode on opener Daryl Mitchell’s 35-ball 49 and skipper Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 33 off 31 balls to overhaul the target with 33 deliveries to spare.
India will next face Afghanistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (November 3).
