T20 World Cup 2021: R Ashwin should play ahead of Varun Chakravarthy v New Zealand- Sanjay Bangar

India to face NZ in Dubai on Oct 31.

Sanjay Bangar opted for Ashwin over Varun vs NZ | GettyAs India faces New Zealand in a do-or-die clash in Dubai on October 31st, captain Virat Kohli will be strategizing a way to win against Kane Williamson and co and one of the biggest things on his mind would be the team composition for this crucial encounter.

India and New Zealand both suffered huge losses to Pakistan, which has virtually made it into the semis after beating Afghanistan as well. However, India with a 10-wicket loss needs to beat New Zealand handsomely with an eye on net run rate as well.

Speaking of the Indian team composition, Sanjay Bangar said that Kohli might opt for the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin instead of mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who looked out of sorts against Pakistan.

Speaking exclusively on Star Sports show Game Plan, ahead of the India-New Zealand clash in ICC Men’s T20 World 2021, former Team India batting coach Sanjay Bangar explained why R Ashwin should be in today’s playing XI.

Varun failed to pick a single wicket vs Pakistan | APHe said: “Varun Chakravarthy’s recent performances in UAE. He was very effective at Sharjah, but not in Dubai - where this game will be played. Taking into account the importance of the game, the number of matches played by Varun Chakravarthy is a little less, and his international experience is a little less.

For a game of this significance, you would definitely want somebody with temperament and experience. So, in my opinion, Ravichandran Ashwin may get the nod in place of Varun Chakravarthy.”

India and New Zealand are in a virtual shoot-out match as whoever wins have a chance to finish on a maximum of eight points and grab second place in the group.
