New Zealand's experienced opener Martin Guptill is expected to be fit for his team’s crucial game against India on Sunday (October 31) in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
Guptill was considered doubtful for the important clash of the Super 12s group against India in Dubai on Sunday after he suffered a badly bruised toe during New Zealand’s opening game against Pakistan on October 26.
He had injured his left toe from a Haris Rauf delivery before being dismissed for 17 during the Black Caps’ 5-wicket loss to Pakistan in Sharjah in their opening game in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
However, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) on Thursday (October 28) revealed though Guptill was in much pain, he is now expected to be fit to play against India on Sunday.
NZC said in a statement: “Guptill's left big toe is badly bruised and pretty sore but the sense is that he will still be available for Sunday night's game. He will be further assessed at training tomorrow (Friday).”
With both India and New Zealand have lost their opening games to Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021, they will look to make comeback in the tournament with a win on Sunday.
Noteworthy, New Zealand will train on Friday, October 29, and Saturday, October 30 ahead of their crucial T20 World Cup clash against Team India in Dubai.
