South Africa registered their first victory in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they defeated West Indies by eight wickets in Dubai on Tuesday (October 26).
Asked to bat first, West Indies posted 143/8 in 20 overs on the back of Evin Lewis’ 56 off 35 balls, which included 3 fours and 6 sixes.
Anrich Nortje was the stand-out bowler for South Africa, claiming 1 wicket by conceding only 14 runs in his four overs. Dwaine Pretorius (3-17), Keshav Maharaj (2-24) and Kagiso Rabada (1-27) also did a brilliant job with the ball.
In reply, the Proteas rode on Aiden Markram’s unbeaten 26-ball 51 and contributions from Rassie van der Dussen (43*) and Reez Hendricks (39) to overhaul the target with 10 balls to spare.
Cricket experts on Twitter lauded the South African team for their dominating victory over the defending champions.
