Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday (October 26) came out in support of fast bowler Mohammad Shami after the fast bowler faced a barrage of online abuse after his not-so-good performance in India's 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan on Sunday in Dubai in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.
India suffered their first-ever loss to Pakistan in a World Cup clash and after the match, there were bigoted comments made on Shami by trolls on Twitter and Instagram. Other Indian cricketers including captain Virat Kohli faced abuse as well.
Several ex-Indian cricketers have since condemned the abuse on social media and called for people to be responsible while taking their anger out on cricketers when they have a bad day.

BCCI shared an image of Kohli and Shami from India's warm-up fixture against England and wrote on Twitter, "Proud, Strong, Upward and onward."
Online abuse has become a disturbing trend in recent times with cricketers being targeted after their poor performances on a particular day.
Recently during the IPL 2021, RCB's Australian all-rounder Dan Christian was on the receiving end with teammate Glenn Maxwell coming to his defense followed by the franchise with strong messages.
