T20 World Cup 2021: ‘It doesn't bother Pakistan or Indian player’, Wasim Akram on India’s clean record over Pakistan

Team India are yet to lose a game against the arch-rivals across the World Cup events.

India and Pakistan are due to lock horns in Dubai on October 24 | GettyThere is a lot of hype around the India-Pakistan match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, slated to be held in Dubai on October 24.

India's record against Pakistan in the World Cups has once again become a talking point ahead of the marquee clash. Notably, the Men in Blue are yet to lose a game against the arch-rivals across the World Cup events.

While India enjoy a 7-0 lead over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup, they have defeated the neighbours five out of five times in the T20 World Cup so far.

However, legendary Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram feels history and head-to-head records hardly matter to players from both sides when they step out on the field.

"I have done my homework. Yes, at the World Cups, we haven't beaten India but we have won more matches when we take into account the overall record. But yeah, I have played 5 World Cups but we haven't beaten India yet," Akram said while speaking at Salaam Cricket 2021 in Dubai.

"But when you head into a World Cup, you don't note these things. That's the job of a statistician. But as a player, it doesn't bother me or any Pakistan or Indian player as well.

"In the World Cups, every match matters. Every team is there to win the World Cup. Yes, the India-Pakistan game is very crucial. It's the biggest game of the tournament. Players are feeling a bit of pressure. But once the game starts, you get on with the game and you forget everything else. You start thinking about how to focus on the game," he added.

India-Pakistan contest always brings a tidal wave of emotions but Wasim Akram stressed on the importance of showcasing controlled aggression.

"Sunny bhai (Gavaskar) has said it right. You need to work hard but you also need to apply your mind. You need to be aggressive but controlled aggression is very important," he opined.
