Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad said his team needs to improve in a lot of areas despite staging a stunning comeback against Oman in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
After suffering an embarrassing defeat against Scotland, Bangladesh made a brilliant comeback in their second match in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021, as the Tigers crushed Oman by 26 runs on Tuesday (October 19) to gain two crucial points to keep them alive in the global tournament.
Mustafizur Rahman (4/36) and Shakib Al Hasan (3/28) starred with the ball, as Bangladesh successfully defended 153 by restricting Oman to 127 to win the game by 26 runs on Tuesday. Earlier Mohammad Naim (64) and Shakib (42) took the Tigers to a respectable total against Oman in the game.
Mahmudullah said after the match: “We need to improve in a lot of areas, but I'll take the win. Delivering the win for the country is the most important thing and I hope they are happy.”
The skipper added, “Shakib and Naim batted well and took us to 150+, but we should've done better with the new ball and we need to correct those areas where we erred. Death bowling has been good, and we have done well in many areas, so we'll take heart from that.”
Meanwhile, Oman skipper Zeeshan Maqsood said that 154 was a chaseable target in the prevailing conditions while stressed to improve their batting after the defeat against Bangladesh.
Maqsood said after the game, “It was a chaseable target. In the last 6 overs, we lost wickets and didn't bat well so credit goes to the bowlers. We were in the match for 15-16 overs and needed 50 in 36, which isn't too much, so we just have to be better at batting and get those runs.”
He signed off by saying, “There's no pressure from the crowd, it's encouraging that they supported us. It's a sport, so we'll come back stronger. We have to see where we went wrong, and need to come back stronger against Scotland.”
