Scotland and Papua New Guinea locked horns in the fifth qualifying match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Tuesday (October 19).
Opting to bat first, Scotland posted 165/9 in their allotted 20 overs on the back of Richie Berrington’s 49-ball 70. Wicketkeeper batter Matthew Cross also played a valuable knock of 36-ball 45.
Kabua Morea (4-31) and Chad Soper (3-24) starred with the ball for Papua New Guinea, claiming seven wickets between them.
In reply, Papua New Guinea were reduced to 35/5 in the powerplay but they still managed to reach 148 before being bowled out in 19.3 overs. Norman Vanua was the top scorer with 37-ball 47.
Josh Davey was the stand-out bowler for Scotland, taking 4 wickets by conceding 18 runs in his 3.3 overs. It was Scotland’s second successive win in Round 1 and they have now one foot in the Super 12s with a game remaining against Oman.

Bangladesh defeated Oman by 30 runs in the sixth qualifying match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the same venue.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 153 in their stipulated 20 overs. Opener Mohammad Naim was the top scorer with 50-ball 64 while Shakib Al Hasan contributed 42 off 29 balls.
For Oman, Bilal Khan (3-18), Fayyaz Butt (3-30), and Kaleemullah (2-30) were the pick of the bowlers.
Chasing the target, Oman posed a threat to Bangladesh when Jatinder Singh (40 off 33 balls) and Kashyap Prajapati (21 off 18 balls) were in the middle.
However, other batters failed to step up to the plate and Oman’s innings slipped from 81/3 to 112/9 in a span of almost six overs.
Mustafizur Rahman (4-36) and Shakib Al Hasan (3-28) did the bulk of the damage with the ball as Bangladesh eventually restricted Oman to 127/9 in 20 overs, registering a comprehensive 26-run victory.
