Former Australian batter and commentator Michael Hussey on Sunday (October 17) said that he is “pretty optimistic” about Australia’s chances in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Australia hasn’t been in good form lately and hasn’t won a T20 international series since February 2020, having suffered five T20I series defeats to England, India, New Zealand, West Indies, and Bangladesh, but Hussey feels Aaron Finch and his team can bring glory to home this year.

Hussey told foxsports.com.au: “I’m actually pretty optimistic about Australia’s chances. I think we’ve got a really good team, a dangerous team. If they can get their confidence up, adapt well to the conditions, and then I think it’s a pretty darn good team. Hopefully, they can get on a roll.”

He also heaped praise on the in-form Glenn Maxwell ahead of Australia’s campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, where the all-rounder amassed 513 runs and managed three wickets for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the recently concluded IPL 2021.

Praising Maxwell, Hussey said: “He’s been great to watch. He’s been on fire. He’s been confident and the good thing is it’s in those conditions in the UAE (he has performed). So hopefully he can carry his IPL form into the World cup because he’s going to be a critical member of the team.”

He concluded, “It’s a tough role to play there in the middle order in T20 cricket so if you’ve got someone who’s in top form and on top of their game then we’ve seen he can be a match-winner on his own.”

Australia will begin its T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against South Africa on October 23 in Abu Dhabi.
