Ajit Agarkar believes that the national selectors shouldn't make any changes to India's squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 just because some of the selected players are struggling in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE.
Last month, the All-India Senior Selection Committee picked the India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 to be hosted by the BCCI from October 17 to November 14 in the UAE and Oman.
Some Indian players including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan have been going through a lean patch in the ongoing IPL 2021, which has raised questions about their place in the T20 World Cup squad, with some calling for replacements of some of them.
But the former pacer was against the idea of last-minute changes, saying Indian selectors should stick with the picked squad irrespective of their current form in the ongoing IPL 14, as it takes only one game to change things and regain the form for any batter or bowler.
Agarkar said on Star Sports show Cricket Connected: “In my opinion, once you have picked the squad for the World Cup -- barring injury -- I don't think you should make any changes. Yes, there are guys at the moment who are not in their great form, but it only takes one inning -- whether it's bowling or batting -- to change that form around, and that could still happen before the end of the IPL.”
He signed off by saying, “So, if you think that's the best 15 you've picked going to the World Cup, my personal opinion, I would stick with it, because you gotta show faith in people even when things are not looking so good, because things can turn around very quickly.”
India squad:
