Sri Lanka adds five more players to their original T20 World Cup 2021 squad

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday (October 1) announced that they have added five more players to the Sri Lanka team’s original squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

The five new names added to Sri Lanka’s original T20 World Cup squad are Pathum Nissanka, Minod Bhanuka, Ashen Bandara, Lakshan Sandakan, and Ramesh Mendis.

The SLC also confirmed that the new 23-member Sri Lankan squad will leave for Oman on October 3 to play two games against the hosts followed by two ICC-organized T20 World Cup warm-up games on October 12 and 14 before commencing their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign in the UAE.

Notably, Lahiru Madushanka, who was previously named in Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad, will not travel with the team on Sunday, as he is recovering from an injury.

SLC said in a statement: “Sri Lanka Cricket's Selection Committee included 05 more additional players to join the Sri Lanka squad taking part in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021. Accordingly, a total of 23 players will consist of Sri Lanka's World Cup Squad. Sri Lanka Team will leave for Oman on October 3, 2021.”

Noteworthy, Mahela Jayawardena was recently appointed as Sri Lanka’s consultant for the first round of the T20 World Cup 2021 and he will join the squad led by Dasun Shanaka immediately after the completion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) in the UAE.

Reserves: Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando, Akila Dananjaya, Pulina Tharanga.
