The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla was not happy with the latest rumors regarding split captaincy in Team India after the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman.
According to a report in the Times of India, a source had revealed that the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be stepping down as captain in the limited-overs cricket and will be replaced by his deputy Rohit Sharma after the ICC mega event in the middle east.
Even though some fans were happy with this news, BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal along with secretary Jay Shah had rubbished these claims. After Dhumal and Shah, Shukla was the latest BCCI official to slam this rumor.
“There is nothing to this rumor. Also, let's focus on the T20 World Cup rather than playing soothsayer and predicting the future. There have been no talks on split captaincy,” he told ANI.

It is also learnt that the Indian national selectors who announced India’s squad for the upcoming showpiece event, took inputs from Rohit Sharma as well being Kohli’s deputy in white-ball cricket which led to talks of split captaincy post the T20 World Cup 2021.
Rohit Sharma had led his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians to five trophies along with a Champions League title and when it comes to captaining India, Rohit has title victories in the 2018 Asia Cup and Nidahas Trophy 2018 to make a strong case to lead Men in Blue in limited-overs.
As far as the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 is concerned, Virat Kohli and Co. will begin their campaign against their arch-rival as India and Pakistan will be locking horns on October 24 in a group-stage encounter.
