As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in UAE, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also shared the good news of the appointment of former India skipper MS Dhoni as the mentor of this India team in the ICC tournament.

This decision was well received by the masses who were delighted to see their favorite cricketer back with the Indian team after bidding the game adieu in August last year. Along with fans, the pundits were also happy with this appointment.

More than surprised, I am really happy as an Indian cricket fan that someone of his (Dhoni) stature is going to be closely associated with the team. He has contributed over the years as captain and as a player. His contribution is important and precious for the Indian team when they go to play in the T20 World Cup, former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha told Sportskeeda.

The 35-year-old then talked about the wicket-keeper batsman’s experience in UAE from last year’s and this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) will be really helpful to Team India in terms of formulating tactics for the tournament.

It's a very interesting move by the BCCI to get MS Dhoni in the role of a mentor. He's going to be there in the UAE for 30-35 days, so he will know exactly what the conditions are, what is happening and what not is happening because first playing himself and then mentoring will be a big cushion,” the left-arm leg spinner said.

It's a very clever decision by the BCCI to add him. The vast knowledge he has as a leader, it will only help Virat Kohli. We have seen the way Virat has been leading this Indian team, the way he has been contributing as a captain, and then two of the greats coming together, sky is the only limit,” the former cricketer concluded.

With India scheduled to begin their T20 World Cup campaign with the tournament opener against archrivals Pakistan in Dubai, it will be exciting to see how the Men in Blue go about in this marquee event as MS Dhoni will be back in the Indian dressing room.
