The T20 World Cup 2021 which was supposed to be held in India was shifted to UAE owing to COVID-19 condition across the country due to which the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League was also suspended earlier this year and was to UAE as well.

While all the participating nations are announcing their squads for the upcoming ICC showpiece event, Sri Lanka cricket has confirmed the island nation will be playing a couple of extra warm-up matches against Oman ahead of the tournament.

“We are looking to play as many games as possible leading into the World Cup in similar conditions the team will experience in the UAE. The games against Oman and the 2 ICC practice games will allow us this opportunity,” said SLC CEO Ashley de Silva.

The Sri Lankan team will be leaving for Oman on 3 October and will be taking on Oman on October 7 and 9 as additional preparation for the World Cup followed by two official practice games scheduled on October 12 and 14.

Sri Lanka, along with Bangladesh, did not qualify directly for the Super 12 of the upcoming showpiece event and will compete against the six teams who've made the cut through the Qualifiers in Round 1 from where only four teams would progress.

Sri Lanka are placed alongside Netherlands, Ireland and Namibia in Group A for this round. The island nation will take on Namibia first, on October 18 at Abu Dhabi and then Ireland on the 20th, before moving to Sharjah for their final fixture against Netherlands on October 22.
