BCCI has stunned one and all with its masterstroke by appointing the legendary MS Dhoni as the mentor of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday (September 8).

BCCI’s move to bring India’s one of the most successful captains Dhoni back into the dressing room for the T20 World Cup 2021 made every Indian happy, thanks to the BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s efforts to convince the charismatic cricketer to mentor the side in the global event in the UAE and Oman.

It is being said that not just because of Shah’s insistence, Indian captain Virat Kohli, Vice-captain Rohit Sharma, and head coach Ravi Shastri were all on the same page to appoint Dhoni as a mentor for the T20 World Cup, leading the three-time ICC Trophy winner to agree for the role.

A source close to the development revealed: “The best thing was that Virat and Rohit have played under MS and they welcomed the move. Ravi is very much on the same page in this matter.”

Meanwhile, the well-informed BCCI sources have also confirmed that Dhoni’s appointment is only a one-off thing, as there are no immediate long-term plans to continue with the former skipper.

For now, it will be interesting to see how the dynamics of the Indian cricket team's functioning will change once Dhoni enters the scene for the showpiece event.
