“Every tunnel has light at the end of it”, R Ashwin tweets after being picked in India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad

Ashwin's last international appearance in white-ball cricket was way back in 2017.

BCCI on Wednesday (September 8) announced Team India’s 15-member squad for the showpiece tournament.

Apart from the legendary MS Dhoni’s appointment as team mentor, Ashwin’s inclusion in the squad was the biggest talking point. The off-spinner’s last international appearance in white-ball cricket was way back in 2017.

Taking to Twitter, Ashwin posted a quote which reads: “Every tunnel has light at the end of it, but only those in the tunnel who believe in the light will live to see it ..”

He also expressed gratitude for receiving a call-up into the limited-overs side.

“2017: I wrote this quote down a million times in my diary before putting this up on the wall! Quotes that we read and admire have more power when we internalise them and apply in life. Happiness and gratitude are the only 2 words that define me now. #t20worldcup2021,” Ashwin wrote in the caption.

Notably, Ravichandran Ashwin is warming the bench in the ongoing Test series against England. The Indian team management has preferred to go with a four-pronged pace attack in the four Tests so far, while Ravindra Jadeja has featured as a lone spinner in the playing XI.

It remains to be seen if Ashwin gets an opportunity in the fifth and final Test, due to begin on September 10 at Old Trafford.
