India and Pakistan are set to meet on the cricket field for the first time since their encounter in ICC World Cup 2019. The two teams will lock horns after 28 months, on October 24 in the ICC T20 World Cup in Dubai.
Just like the 50-over World Cup, Team India also enjoy a big lead over the arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup. The inaugural champions are yet to lose against Pakistan in the showpiece tournament.
Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has backed his team to end the winless streak in World Cups ahead of the marquee event. He said that the Men in Green can defeat India if they play their best cricket.
"They definitely have the ability to achieve that result. If Pakistan plays to its potential, then they can beat any team in the world including India. Twenty20 cricket is such a format that the whole match can turn in the space of a few balls or even one incident and the Pakistan versus India match will be no different. If Pakistan play at their best, they can certainly beat India," Wahab Riaz told Pakpassion.net.
India have played Pakistan on five occasions in T20 World Cups. Their first encounter in the inaugural season saw the match end in a tie and India winning the bowl-out. The two teams met again in the finals and MS Dhoni-led Indian side was crowned champions.
The two teams did not cross swords in the next two editions. India defeated Pakistan in a one-sided contest in 2012 and 2014. India chased down 119 in the 2016 edition in a memorable game.
The only time Pakistan beat India in T20 World Cup was a practice match in 2012 which was telecasted live. India lead 7-0 in 50-over World Cup, taking the tally to 12-0 in all the World Cups combined.
