Australian Pacer Pat Cummins feels that hosting the ICC T20 World Cup while India is worst hit by the second wave of COVID-19 will be a ‘drain on Indian resources’.
The current situation is so bad across the country that even the ongoing IPL 2021 also had to be suspended indefinitely.
“If it’s going to be a drain on resources or it’s not going to be safe, then I don’t think it’s right to play it over here. That’s the first question which needs to be answered,” Cummins was quoted as saying by the ‘Age’ newspaper.
Even though no final decision has been made on this matter yet, the Aussie quick feels the cricket authorities should check with Indian government before making a final call and do what’s best.
IPL 2021: I’ve never felt unsafe in India; IPL help people stay in homes, says Pat Cummins
“It probably too early to say. It’s six months away. The priority should be for cricket authorities to work with the Indian government to see what’s best for the Indian people,” the right-arm quick added.
The 27-year-old who had recently donated USD 50,000 to India’s COVID-19 fight has a lot of sympathy for what the people are going through at the moment across the country.
“Around the hotel, there is less staff and when you hop in the bus to go to training there is normally a few hundred people waiting. There’s no one out there now and no crowds at games,” he said.
