As the dark clouds continue to soar over the fate of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020, former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Dean Jones has come out with a better solution than postponing or canceling the tournament due to the Coronavirus affect.
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia between October 18-November 15, but due to the lockdown and travel restriction enforced in place across the world especially in the host nation to fight the global Coronavirus pandemic might lead to the postponement of the showpiece event this year.

However, the world is slowly returning towards the normalcy with several countries easing the COVID-19 lockdown norms but still, the chances of the T20 World Cup taking place this year look very slim.
While the International Cricket Council is likely to take a final call on the future of the T20 World Cup 2020 in its next meeting on June 10, Jones has suggested an alternative venue for the ICC event.
The Aussie has suggested the ICC that the T20 World Cup 2020 could be held in New Zealand since the country has conquered the COVID-19 pandemic and is likely to move to alert level 1 next week.
New Zealand has not recorded any new case of Coronavirus in the last 12 days and has just one active case in the country at the moment and the NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that the country is ready to bring its alert system down to level 1.

As per the guidelines, the ban on the gathering and all current COVID-19 rules on businesses and services will be lifted under alert level 1, but the border restrictions will remain in place in New Zealand for now.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (June 3), Jones has conveyed his thoughts to the world body regarding the staging of T20 World Cup 2020. He wrote on Twitter: “Jacinda Ardern said NZ could move to alert level 1 next week, which means all social distancing measures and curbs on mass gatherings will be lifted, she said. Maybe play the T20 WC there? #justathought”
Noteworthy, all the sporting activities including cricket across the world has been suspended since March due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus, however, England, West Indies, and Sri Lanka have recently returned to training under the ICC new guideline.
