Amid the ongoing global Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, former Australian cricketer Simon Katich has expressed his views on the scheduling of the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia from October 18 to November 15, 2020.

The fast-growing outbreak of the COVID-19 has taken the world by a storm, killing more than 1,20,000 people globally while the ongoing health crisis has now hit the cricket world and can impact the upcoming T20 World Cup 2020 as well despite it is still 6-month away.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced several countries to impose lockdown to tackle the spread of the deadly virus, leading to all sporting events across the world to be either postponed or canceled and now it has cast a shadow over the forthcoming showpiece event T20 World Cup 2020.

However, the ICC had made it clear that the showpiece event will “go ahead as scheduled” despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis with “no member is asking for a date change as of now”.

Well, Katich believes that the T20 World Cup 2020 could be pushed back towards the end of the Australian summer if the tournament isn’t organized within the planned window due to the ongoing crisis, suggesting the tournament can be held in February 2021, just like Women's T20 World Cup 2020.

As per reports in ESPNCricinfo, Katich told the SEN Radio: “Potentially there's a chance to host it later in the summer, like the recent Women's T20 World Cup, and whether that's an opportunity to re-jig things... it'll be interesting to hear those discussions which are probably taking place at the moment and whether that's logistically possible with the FTP the way it is.”

He signed off by saying, “But I'm sure that a T20 World Cup is a priority for all the organizers at the moment, to try and make sure that goes ahead at some point in the Australian summer given that we're hosting it.”
