Former India cricketer-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar on Monday (March 23) revealed his picks for the no.4 batsman and all-rounder for India’s campaign in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 to be held in Australia from 18 October – 15 November 2020.

With India preparing for the forthcoming showpiece event in Australia, the Men in Blue’s ever-debatable No.4 batting position – which has been in focus for the last couple of seasons, will once again come under the scanner as the national side are yet find a permanent solution for the position.

India has played Rishabh Pant, captain Virat Kohli himself, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and more recently Shreyas Iyer at this position but they could not find its perfect batsman for this role.

However, it seems that Iyer could be a perfect option for the No.4 batting position for India, given his ability 1. to rotate the strike and tackle both spin and pace very well besides the recent show against Australia and New Zealand as well as his quick run-scoring ability.

Well, Manjrekar – who was recently dropped by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from its commentary penal, was enough clear with his choice when he was asked to pick India’s No.4 for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2020 if he was a selector and he said it would be Iyer.

He also named Pandya as India’s all-rounder for the forthcoming ICC event in Australia.

Have a look here:

Noteworthy, Iyer recently finished as the leading run-scorer in the ODI series against New Zealand despite India losing the series 3-0 with 217 runs at an average of 72.33 and a strike rate of 95.59.

He was also impressive in the T20I series as well, scoring 153 runs in 5 innings at an average of 51 and a strike rate of 131.90. He has featured in total 18 ODIs and 22 T20Is for India so far.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya has been out of national colors since last September due to an injury and then underwent surgery in October. He was scheduled to return in the international scene in the three-match ODI series against South Africa, but it was called off due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
