Team India started the women's T20 World Cup on a good note after they defeated the defending champions Australia in the opening match of the tournament. They won the match by 17 runs as they stopped Australia from chasing 133 in 20 overs and bowled them out on 115.
At 67/3 in ten overs, Australia looked good to chase down the total, but India's spinner Poonam Yadav took down the hosts with her outstanding spell. Poonam picked up 4 wickets for just 19 runs in her four overs. She was on a hat-trick 12th over of the match, but wicket-keeper Tanya Bhatia dropped Jess Jonassen behind the stumps.
