Indian women’s team coach Amol Mazumdar stated that the team’s preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 began the day after they won the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in November. His words came ahead of India’s tournament opener on June 14 against Pakistan in Birmingham.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar is making sure the team stays grounded as they get ready for a crucial opening game. Muzumdar is eager to point out that future victories won't come from past success, especially since the dynamics of the game have completely changed.
"It's a completely different format, isn't it? I mean, yes, we won the World Cup, but that was in the ODIs; this is a brand-new format. One thing I can assure you is that we would take a lot from that World Cup getting into this tournament because we know for a fact that we will cross the line,” Mazumdar stated ahead of India’s WT20 2026 opener, quoted by NDTV.
India's preparation was a deliberate, quick change rather than an afterthought. As soon as their previous tournament ended, the plan for this T20 campaign was established.
"The preparation for this World Cup, the T20 World Cup, started immediately after the last one that we won in November. I think the first series that we played after that World Cup was against Sri Lanka, and we, as a group, discussed that we will be looking forward and how we will be preparing,” Mazumdar said.
Muzumdar gave early acclimatization a priority because he understood that English conditions pose particular difficulties, such as erratic weather, early swing, and pitches that change behavior in the middle of the day. In order to get settled, the team arrived over three weeks early.
"We came on the 23rd of May, and today is, what, the 12th of June, so almost three weeks, and we've got used to it now," the coach added.
