Days after Pakistan’s ouster from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, it was reported that PCB will impose a fine of PKR 50 lakh each on the players for failing to make the semi-finals.

According to reports, the move to penalize the players was made right after Pakistan’s 61-run thrashing at the hands of India in the group stage.

The Men in Green were reportedly told the fines may end up being waived off if the team reaches the final-four, but they failed to go beyond the Super 8 phase of the tournament.

However, PCB on Saturday (March 14) rubbished reports claiming that members of Pakistan’s squad had been fined for their underwhelming show in the T20 World Cup.

“No player has been fined but yes the board is thinking about working out a formula for players because they get lot of incentives when they perform well,” PCB spokesperson Amir Mir told reporters.

Mir mentioned that each player now earns close to PKR 6-7 crores so the board is contemplating making them accountable for their performances.

“But nothing is final and no player has been fined,” he added.

Notably, Pakistan cricketers are offered central contracts with monthly retainers besides the usual match and tour fees and bonuses for winning matches in different categories. The players also receive a share of the logo sponsorship deal signed by the board.

Last year, it was also agreed that the players would get a 3 percent share of the annual revenues that the PCB gets from the ICC, which amounts close to $34 million a year.

Pakistan kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign on a nervy note, almost enduring a loss against the Netherlands. The team then defeated the USA but were crushed by arch-rivals India.

The Salman Ali Agha-led side went on to defeat Namibia in their last Group A clash and qualify for the Super 8s. Their opening fixture against New Zealand in the Super 8s was washed out, forcing both teams to share points. Following this, they endured a loss against England, which left their fate hanging as far as the contention for semifinals were concerned.

Although England’s win over New Zealand gave Pakistan hope, they failed to make it count against co-hosts Sri Lanka. The 2009 champions won the match but couldn’t overtake the Kiwis on Net Run Rate to enter the semis.
