Suryakumar Yadav opened up about all the superstitions that the Indian team used during the T20 World Cup 2026, especially ahead of the final against New Zealand on March 8, which was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India successfully defended their championship, which they won in the 2024 edition, after defeating New Zealand in the final.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India, disclosed that his squad moved hotels prior to the semifinal match against England after someone advised it following their triumph in Ahmedabad.
"We were on the flight to Wankhede for the semi-final when someone suggested we try a hotel change. Many teams have done it. We didn’t want to leave anything on the table that could take us closer to our goal. So, if someone has won from there, let’s try it," he said while speaking to The Indian Express.
Due to the moon eclipse, the Indian team had to postpone their practice session ahead of the semifinals in Mumbai. The hosts also ended their losing record in ICC events at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
"People were saying India doesn't win in Ahmedabad… this after the 2023 final. But look at it now. We’ve won there, in that same stadium. Now we know there’s no problem with the stadium," Suryakumar said.
The much-hyped T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad proved to be a one-sided affair. India posted 255/5 in 20 overs after being asked to bat by Kiwi captain Mitchell Santner. Sanju Samson starred with 89 runs, while Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma also made fifties.
In response, Tim Seifert made 52 runs, but New Zealand could only manage 159 runs in 19 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took 4/15, while Axar Patel took 3 wickets as well.
