Former Indian spinner R. Ashwin believes Sanju Samson could have easily achieved three centuries for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 by taking singles when he was close to reaching the milestone in matches against the West Indies, in the semis against England, and in the final versus New Zealand.
Instead of focusing on his personal accomplishments, he chose to play with intent, which is one of his most endearing qualities.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin claimed that he is a huge fan of Sanju Samson, the batter and cricketer, and that he could have achieved historic centuries in the shortest format's big event.
“As an absolute lover of Sanju Samson, the cricketer and the batter. There should have been 3 centuries. 97 not out. I understand it is possible that I can be a strict South Indian daddy as well. I am saying 2 games, man. Almost got out on 90 runs. He can easily take 10 singles and score a century. But this guy doesn’t do it. He always plays with intent. He leaves his own milestone. And that’s something lovable about Sanju," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Sanju Samson scored 321 runs in 5 games in the T20 World Cup with a strike rate of 199.37 and three fifties. If Samson had scored a century in any of the three matches, he would have joined Suresh Raina on the elite list. Only Raina has scored a century for India in T20 World Cups, and that came against South Africa in the 2010 tournament.
