Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has backed India to win the second T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against England. This match will be played on March 5, 2026, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
England has been on a roll in the tournament, decimating the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand on their way to the semi-finals. India, on the other hand, had a setback against South Africa but has been very good apart from this.
Sehwag has shared his view on the India v England semi-final and stated that if India can chase down a huge 195 against the West Indies, they can do the same against England, despite the latter's lack of a brilliant bowling attack. It is also worth noting that just because India has the advantage does not ensure a win.
England boasts a good pace attack featuring Jofra Archer and Sam Curran, while the spin trio of Adil Rashid, Liam Dawson, and Will Jacks leads the way. Indian batting only hit the right strides against Zimbabwe and the West Indies in the Super 8s stage, but the bowling and catching need lots of work.
“If we can chase 195 against the West Indies, we can do that against England as well. Their bowling is nothing special as such. We are playing in India; we are playing at the Wankhede, our favorite ground, so we have the edge," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
“But having the edge doesn’t mean that we will win. No excuse will work; your batting, bowling, and fielding have to be on point. It will not work if they—if only we had done that and all those things," Sehwag said.
