India and West Indies are currently locking horns in a do-or-die Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Invited to bat first, West Indies got off to a solid start as the duo of Shai Hope and Roston Chase put on 68 runs for the opening wicket. Varun Chakaravarthy drew the first blood for India by removing Hope on 32.

Batting at No. 3, Shimron Hetmyer was threatening to take the game away from the hosts. The southpaw was batting on 27 off 12 balls before Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the 12th over to bring India back in the contest, dismissing Hetmyer and Chase (40 off 25).

However, Hetmyer’s wicket triggered a controversy. The dismissal came off a short-of-length delivery that angled across the left-hander. He attempted a slog across the line and inside-edged it to Sanju Samson, who made a big appeal and umpire Chris Gaffaney raised the finger.

Hetmyer reviewed immediately but UltraEdge showed a spike and the on-field decision was upheld. The West Indies batter though was visibly unhappy, gesturing that there was a gap between bat and ball. Even Caribbean head coach Daren Sammy wore a disappointing look on the face.

Coming to the match, West Indies piled up a formidable 195/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Rovman Powell (34* off 19) and Jason Holder (37* off 22) took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners in the death overs.

Bumrah starred with the ball for India, finishing with the figures of 2 for 36 in his four overs.
