Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has some encouraging words for struggling India opener Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek, considered to be one of the most dangerous batters in T20Is today, has recorded three ducks in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.
Abhishek Sharma started with a duck in India’s first T20 World Cup game against the USA. He missed the next game against Namibia with a stomach ailment but returned against Pakistan to score yet another duck. There were hopes of him returning to form against the Netherlands, but the southpaw from Punjab recorded yet another duck.
Harbhajan Singh encouraged Abhishek Sharma to continue to believe in his abilities despite his rotten luck in the tournament. Abhishek Sharma has struggled to put the ball through the off-side as the bowlers have tried to tie him down on the leg-side, and he has gotten out trying to force his way to hit a big shot.
“When you go through something like this, a lot of things run through your mind. I have a small message for Abhishek. I would advise him to believe in his abilities, and this too shall pass. I am sure that the day his bat speaks, it will speak rightly.
We are all waiting, and we hope that he comes to form in that big match against South Africa. I would also advise him to leave that midwicket area for a while now and look to play straight," Harbhajan said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“Once he scores 1-2 runs and then he gets some shots off, then he will get his confidence back and also his form. South Africa might also look to bring an off-spinner straightaway, but it doesn’t matter," Harbhajan added.
Abhishek Sharma has been doing well in nets and hitting the ball well, but the opposition has tied him down with off-spinners bowling into his body with pace on the ball.
