India and Pakistan will square off in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A clash on Sunday (February 15). The marquee fixture will take place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Ahead of the game, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha attended a press conference, where he addressed queries on Usman Tariq’s controversial bowling action.
The mystery spinner, who rose to prominence with impressive show in franchise cricket, is being hailed as Pakistan's "X-factor" heading into the high-profile match.
While Usman Tariq has troubled the batters in his brief international journey so far, his unorthodox action has become a topic of debate, with many labelling him a "blatant chucker."
Tariq’s action has been reported twice, first during PSL 2024 and again in the 2025 season. However, the ICC and PCB have given him clearance. Hence, Agha doesn’t understand why there are still discussions about his bowling action.
“The guy has been cleared twice and he has done whatever ICC said and whatever it requires to bowl in international cricket. So I don’t know why people are saying so many things about him," Agha told reporters on Saturday (February 14).
“But the one thing I can assure you, he doesn’t care about that because he’s very used to of this stuff. It’s been with him since he has started international career, so it doesn’t care about," he said.
“For us, all the players are equal. You guys made Usman Tariq so big. For us, just like there are 15 players, Usman is also there. And obviously, he has been bowling very well for the past few months. And he has also bowled very well in the league cricket he was playing before playing for Pakistan. And yes, you can say that he is a trump card for us," he added.
Usman Tariq has represented Pakistan in four T20Is so far, claiming 11 wickets at an average of 7.90 and an economy rate of 5.93, including a hat-trick against Zimbabwe.
