Explosive Indian opener Abhishek Sharma might not be in sound health to play in the Men in Blue’s next T20 World Cup 2026 against Namibia. This match is set to be played on February 12 in Delhi. India already won their tournament opener on February 7 against the USA in Mumbai.
According to reports in Dainik Jagran, Abhishek Sharma, who was dismissed for a duck against the USA, had been feeling unwell even before the previous game against the USA. He did play in the game, and it seemed that his condition worsened after the match.
Abhishek allegedly had a high temperature and was given infusions for rapid relief. The left-handed opener did not attend the team's practice at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
“Abhi (Abhishek) still has a few issues with his tummy. We are hopeful that he'll be available for the game in two days' time,” assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate told the media on Tuesday.
Sanju Samson had replaced Abhishek as a substitute player, as the cricketer didn’t take the field after his batting ended early.
"Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now," a BCCI source told PTI.
On the other hand, all-rounder Washington Sundar has joined the Indian squad in Delhi ahead of the Namibia match, Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed.
"Sundar joined the team yesterday, and he will train with the squad today," Doeschate revealed.
He also gave an update about Jasprit Bumrah and stated, "Bumrah has been bowling after a 10-day break, and he's feeling a lot better. He's moving well and will bowl again today."
After Namibia, India will clash with Pakistan in Colombo on Sunday, February 15.
