The BCCI had made sweeping changes to Indian cricket team's player regulations in the wake of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 debacle.
Cracking the whip against the players, the Indian board implemented a stringent 10-point guidelines, including limiting travel of wives and girlfriends with the squad and making participation in domestic tournaments mandatory.
Now, a report published by The Indian Express claims that the BCCI has maintained a strict policy and not allowed the players to stay with their families for the entirety of the ongoing T20 World Cup.
According to the report, the current team management sought clarification from the board but the governing body remained firm with its decision. The rule currently permits the players to stay with their families for not more than two weeks, provided an away tour lasts longer than 45 days.
“The Indian team management had approached the BCCI to ask whether wives and fiancées can travel with the team and whether they can also stay with them. The board has made it clear that families won’t be staying with the players. They can make separate arrangements, though, if they want to,” the publication quoted a BCCI source as saying.
As the Suryakumar Yadav-led side travels across cities for the T20 World Cup 2026, the players will have to stay with the squad at the designated team hotel.
India kicked off their campaign with a 29-run victory against the USA in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on February 7. The Men in Blue will next face Namibia in Delhi on February 12, followed by matches against Pakistan in Colombo on February 15 and Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
Earlier, the India players were generally allowed to stay with their families throughout the tours. But the series defeat Down Under triggered big changes as it was reported some players missed internal meetings and sessions in order to spend time with their families.
