Mohammad Kaif, ex-India cricketer-turned-commentator, took a cheeky swipe at Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam during their T20 World Cup 2026 opening match against the Netherlands on February 7, 2026.
Pakistan managed to avoid embarrassment against the Netherlands at the SSC Ground in Colombo. After asking the Netherlands to bat first, Pakistan bowled them out for 147 runs. Though Sahibzada Farhan (47) and Saim Ayub (24) gave a good start, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals and stared at the barrel at 114/7 in 16 overs.
But Faheem Ashraf played a blinder, scoring 29* in 11 balls and taking Pakistan home by 3 wickets.
All eyes were on Babar Azam, who is known to consolidate the innings when a collapse happens, who came out to bat at no. 4. However, he struggled against the Netherlands bowlers and was out for 15 runs in 18 balls, off the bowling of Roelof van der Merwe.
As Babar tried to hit Van der Merwe towards the off-side, he only managed to hand a simple catch to long off and perished.
Mohammad Kaif, who was on Hindi commentary for the official broadcasters, took a dig at Babar Azam and his inability to hit the big shots.
“Aapne bola chakka maro, kaha maar paayein, fielder peeche hai, unka taqat nahi hai, style unka chakka marne ka nahi hai. Run-a-ball lo aur match jeetake jaao hai unka style. Jaha badha shot marne gaye, out ho gaye,” Kaif said as Babar Azam perished.
