Rohit Sharma-led T20 World Cup 2024 winning Indian team is in line for a grand welcome when they land in India. The entire contingent was stuck in Barbados since June 29 due to Hurricane Beryl.
But the Indian cricketers and their families, the coaching staff, BCCI officials, and the country's covering sports journalists will return home via a special flight arranged by the BCCI.
The airport became functional around Tuesday night (IST), but the Indian team had to wait until the Air India special charter flight named AIC24WC -- Air India Champions 24 World Cup -- arrived.
Indian cricket lovers can track the plane as after the departure of the Air India chartered flight, the plane became the most-tracked flight on the flight radar website.
The flight, which took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2, arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados around 2 a.m. local time. The flight took off about 4:50 a.m. local time and is scheduled to land in the Indian national capital around 6:20 a.m. (IST) on Thursday.
The Indian squad was supposed to leave at 6 p.m. local time on July 2 and arrive at 7.45 p.m. (IST) on Wednesday, but the trip was delayed since the plane landed late.
After landing, the players will proceed to meet PM Modi at roughly 9:30 a.m. The felicitation event will most likely last a few hours. The players would subsequently depart for Mumbai on another chartered airplane.
As per India Today, the Indian team will then drive from the Mumbai airport to the Wankhede Stadium, and the last 1 km of the journey will be an open bus parade.
The report further added that there will be a presentation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium, where captain Rohit Sharma will hand over the World Cup trophy to BCCI secretary Jay Shah. The trophy will remain in BCCI headquarters for the next two years.
The players will then leave for their homes starting Thursday.
On the other hand, according to a Dainik Jagran journalist, the open bus parade in Mumbai may take place on Friday rather than Thursday because to the long travel from Barbados to Delhi and the ceremony with Prime Minister Modi, which may fatigue the players.
